GET READY FOR CONFERENCE IN ST. MAARTEN, May 16-18, 2008

May 2008 District Conference will be held in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. This will be our 4th conference as a Provisional District.

The conference is another opportunity for  Toastmasters in District 81P, to enhance their performance through our education programs and by networking and exchanging experiences.

 

Conference Information

Details of conference registration and hotel cost is available on the conference website at (www.caribbeantoastmasters.org/conference)

 

All conference queries, request for information and completed conference documents should be directed to Conference Secretary, e-mailed to conference@caribbeantoastmasters.org

 

Training

  • Trainers Workshops are scheduled for Friday May 16, 8:30 am to 1:00 am. Participants are required to pre-register.  Registration closes 2 weeks before the conference.
     

  • Additional Training workshops are planned for Sunday May 18, 9:00 am to 1:30 pm   All Club and District officers are required to sign the attendance register for submission to WHQ.

    Session 1 - Training for Club Officers

    Session 2 – Training for District Officers (District Executive, Division Council, Area council)

    Session 3 - Non- Officer's Training

SPEECH CONTESTS

 

The May 2008 International Speech and Table Topic Contests are scheduled for Saturday May 17, 2008, Phillipsburg, St. Maarten.

 

Club, Area and Territory leader should be busy organizing and conducting speech contests as well as making plans to send their National Champions to the District Contests. The registration fee for contestant at the district conference is the responsibility of the Territory not the host country or the District. 

 

Below are the 2007 deadlines for completing the respective contests.

The Speaker Recording Authorization Form, Speaker Certificate of Eligibility and Biographical Information forms for Territory Champions planning to participate in the District Contest  must be submitted to LT. Governor Education & training at least least 2 weeks before the  contest date May 17, 2008.

CLUB BUILDING

 

We continue to widen the network of clubs across the region with formation of eight New Club, chartered since July 1. 

Division A

Toastmasters Club Wayaka (club 1075212 ) of Bonaire, Neth. Antilles was chartered on August 8th and assigned to Area 3. Club Sponsor is D'arcy J. Lopes, DT M and he is supported by Mentors Cherylle Leito-Servage, ATMG and Jennifer Felida-Morgan, ACS/CL

 

Division B

RBTT Bank Toastmasters Club (club 940589) of Kingston, Jamaica was chartered on August 1st and assigned to Area 10. Club Sponsors are Paul Sharp, DTM and Donna Knight, ACS/ALS.

 

Credit Union House Speakers (club 1026701) of Kingston, Jamaica was chartered on September 24 and assigned to Area 9. Club Sponsors Michelle Hamilton-Sucklal, ATMB and Thelma M. Cooke Wallace, CTM/CL are supported by Mentor Corren Thomas, CC/CL

 

Division C

Club 1068346, Solidarity Toastmasters Club of St. Michael, Barbados was chartered on September 4 and assigned to Area 13. Club Sponsor are Lorna A. Barrow, ATMB and Peter Morgan. David Parris, ATMS is this club’s Mentor.

 

A fifth Guyanese Club, Gafsons Industries Toastmasters Club (club 1097418) was chartered in Guyana (Area 12) on November 15.  Club Sponsor are Sandra Plummer, CL and Ewart W. Adams, CL.  Maureen Williams, CTM and Eton R. London, CC, CL are the Mentors.

 

Division D

Assigned to Area 17, Amethyst , (club 1003407) was chartered on September 11 in Port Au- Prince, Haiti.

Club Sponsors are Yves Rhou Gerdes, CTM and Saintime Max, Jr. CC supported by Mentors Claude B. Labossiere, CTM/CL and Jean Reginald Jeune, CTM.

 

A few days later on September 25, Club Soleil (club 1084122) was also chartered in Port Au- Prince, Haiti. This club was assigned to area 15 and the Club sponsors are Jean Robert Lebrun, ATMS/ALS and Sephora Pierre-Louis, ACB/CL.  Odile Reiher, ATMB  is the Mentor.

 

The third club Dynamic (club 1111479) was chartered in November 14 again in Port Au- Prince, Haiti and assigned to Area 17.  Club Sponsors Carlos Hercule, CC and Jean Robert Lebrun, ATMS/ALS are supported by Mentor Jean Joseph Carries Desire, CC.

FINANCIAL AUDIT COMMITTEE APPOINTED

 

The District 81 2007/08 Audit Committee has been appointed to serve, as of November 1 2007, through to November 15, 2008 the deadline for the final audit report to WHQ.  This committee is required to conduct  “Mid-Year” and an “End-of-year Audit” as per auditing standards of Toastmasters International.  The members of the committee are:

  • Merlene Maynard - Police Alliance TM

  • Keith Yarde - FirstClass TM

  • Glenfield Lynch - Bridgetown TM
