District Conferences

The District 81 of Caribbean Toastmasters currently holds two conferences each year on the third weekends (Friday to Sunday)  in May and October.

Annual Elections are conducted at the May (Spring) Conference at which District officers due to take office in July1 are installed.

 

About the Conference

 

The purpose of the district conference is to provide educational training and leadership opportunities to all District Toastmasters.

 

The main activities at these conferences are:

Educational Sessions to address the needs of Toastmasters

Business meetings where Club representatives assist in making decisions about the future of the District.

bullet

Speech Contests where the Champion Toastmaster of each territory showcase their skills. (International & table topics in May, Evaluation and humorous in October)

bullet

Opportunities for fellowship among Toastmasters of the region.

bullet

Recognition of Toastmasters' accomplishments in the District.

Training for Club Officers, District Officers and Trainers

Here are a few tips when planning to go to a conference.

Planning for your next District Conference

 

May 18-20, 2007 in Jamaica

Some 209 participants of which 132 were locals and 77 from overseas attended the May 2007 Conference in Kingston, Jamaica.  The popularity of the conference of the conference has increased evidence by increase in first times (eighty-seven). Ten Education Session were conducted – Two general sessions and two set of four concurrent session covering communication, leadership and club success and beyond Toastmasters.  Toastmasters International, World Public Speaking Champion Ed Hearn attended the conference and presenter at one of the general sessions as well as the Keynote Speaker at the banquet.

 

A record nine contestants participated in the International Speech Contest, while seven participated in the Table Topic Contest.

 

Three training session introductory, Level1 and level 2 were held of for Trainer, covering basic skills and some advanced practices in Training.

 

District & Club officers’ Training sessions were conducted on the Sunday morning covering the roles and responsibilities as leadership practices.

October 20-22, 2006  in Curacao

The October 2006 three-day Conference held in Curacao was attended by 223 participants of which 183 were locals and 40 from overseas.  Seven Education Session were conducted – one general session and two set of three concurrent sessions covering communication, leadership and club success.  Toastmasters International President Johnny Uy attended the conference, and was the presenter at the general session as well as the Keynote Speaker at the banquet.

 

Five contestants participated in the Humorous Speech Contest, while four participated in the Evaluation Contest.

 

Two training session introductory and Level1 were held of for Trainer, covering basic skills and practices in Training.

 

District & Club officers’ was conducted on the Sunday morning covering mainly Club Success Plan and Club Mentoring.

 

 

May 19-2, 2006 1in  Barbados

The fifth conference of the CTCT was held in Barbados, May 19-21, 2006 at the Accra Beach Hotel. The Conference Theme was Toastmasters in Business: Developing Caribbean Leaders.

 The 82 Toastmasters who attended the conference including 40 locals and 35 first time benefited from several educations sessions:

November 4-6 2005 - St. Croix, US Virgin Islands

The November 2004 conference was held in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands at the Carambola Hotel. Some 80 Toastmasters attended. The conference theme was "Strengthen Caribbean Bonds... One Speech at a time.

 

May 2005 Conference in Trinidad and Tobago

 

The Trinidadian TMs put on a great show at the 4th Bi-annual Convention of the Caribbean Territorial Council of Toastmasters that was held in  Trinidad and Tobago on May 27-29th, 2005 at Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre, St. Ann, Trinidad & Tobago.

 

Congratulations to Conference Chair - Sonia Alexis,  Area Governor - Nadia Chuckaree and the hardworking team of Trinidad & Tobago Toastmasters for a job well done.

 

The theme of the conference was "Effective Communication for Caribbean Integration"

October 2004 Conference in Curacao

Toastmasters around the region assembled at Breezes Resort in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles for their 3rd Conference, held in October 2004.  Garth Thomas of Trinidad & Tobago was the region's first Evaluation Contest Winner.

May 2004 Conference - Jamaica

The second, CTCT Conference was held at the Holiday In Resort in sunny Montego, Bay, Jamaica from May 28-31, 2004.

At this conference a new council, headed by Council Chair D'arcy Lopes, DTM of Netherlands Antilles, was elected to serve the region for the year 2004-2005.

The Caribbean 2004 Champion of Public Speaking was Hixwell Douglas of Jamaica and the Caribbean Table Topics Champion was Crystal Austin of Barbados.
