Formation of the Council

The Caribbean Territorial Council of Toastmasters was formed on February 15th, 2003, at a conference held at the Terra Nova Hotel, Kingston Jamaica.

Twenty-two of the clubs in the Caribbean consented to be part of this Council as the first step towards becoming a Caribbean District (see attached list).  The first step towards the realization of a dream for many of us, has become a reality.

The meeting was graced by the presence of Mr. Ted Wood DTM Past International President, 1995 and his wife Inez, and was chaired by DTM and Past International Director 1989 - 1991, Eileen Wolfe.  The keynote address was delivered by DTM Wood who also provided much insight regarding how to becoming a district and club building.

The Council's application to become a Territorial Council was included on the agenda for the Board meeting in August 2003 at the International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. At that meeting the CTCT was ratified by WHQ.

The Caribbean Territorial Council was granted Provisional District status effective July 1, 2006 after the council was able to meet the required 45 or more clubs

Having achieved the Presidents distinguished District award in 2006-07 and again in 2007-08, and seventy-72 healthy clubs, the region was granted full district status as of July 1, 2008.
